ADEA – Age Discrimination in Employment Act in Oklahoma

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA, Pub. L. No. 90-202, 81 Stat. 602; 29 U.S.C. § 621 through 29 U.S.C. § 634) protects employees and applicants age forty (40) or older from discrimination on the basis of age, including protection from retaliation against a person due to complaints about age discrimination, discrimination, or participation in an investigation of an age discrimination charge.

The law is enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). In addition, the related Older Worker Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA) amendments govern release agreements involving claims of age discrimination, including those arising from layoffs.
