Sean O'Connell

Sean O'Connell is a registered patent attorney and practices in all areas of intellectual property law. He has extensive experience obtaining U.S. and international patents, registering state, federal, and international trademarks, and registering copyrights.

Sean's expertise has also benefited clients in negotiating and drafting various license, contractual, and transactional agreements. He also has considerable experience in various litigation matters, including prosecuting and defending patent and trademark lawsuits, and representing clients before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Sean has counseled and advised clients on intellectual property matters in a wide variety of technology fields including the software development, Internet and web business, underground construction, nanotechnology, biotechnology, manufacturing, retail, and communications industries.

Prior to practicing law in Oklahoma, Sean was a Captain in the Air Force. He served more than five years as a software engineer and process consultant.

  • Represented The Charles Machine Works, Inc. (Ditch Witch) as counsel for all intellectual property matters, including obtaining US and foreign patents and trademarks, analyzing competitor patents and counseling on product design issues
  • Represented an Internet-based educational services company as counsel for patent and trademark matters
  • Represented national retailer Stage Stores, Inc. as counsel for various trademark and copyright matters, including trademark clearance activities with oppositions and cancellations before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board
  • Represented international building products manufacturer as counsel in intellectual property matters, including patent search and design around consultations, providing infringement opinions and obtaining patent protection
